Daingean Uí Chúis Leave Their Mark on the AIB Awards

Riding the emotional wave of a memorable season for Daingean Uí Chúis, it is only fitting that many of the top players receive the acclaim and awards they so richly deserve. Recently, AIB announced the AIB GAA Football Club Championship Team of the Year. 2026 marks the highly anticipated tradition of AIB sponsoring the GAA Club Championships since 1991.

After more than 75 years of disappointment, Daingean Uí Chúis gave fans a season to remember, and for their reward, many of the top players will rightfully take their place at the AIB GAA Club Players’ Awards for football six spots. Among the top players, according to BettingTop10 Ireland, receiving awards are Tom O’ Sullivan and Conor Flannery. Both men are fixtures for the Daingean defence. Other deserving players, including Mark O’Connor and Paul Geaney, are receiving acclaim at the 2026 AIB Awards.

The finalists for AIB GAA Club Footballer of the Year are two deserving players from St. Brigid, including Ruaidhrí Fallon and Daingean Uí Chúis’ Tom O’Sullivan. Both players are well deserving and favored for the elite attacking and scoring. Dylan Geaney also forms the trio for the Footballer of the Year award.

The Team of the Year was selected by a panel of Gaelic games writers and commentators from major media, including digital media. The well-deserving winners will be officially announced live from a special ceremony in Croke Park on Friday, March 13th.

The award ceremony comes at a time when, last month, the GAA Special Congress approved over 60 measures. Among these measures are experimental adjustments to the game structure. For example, regular distances for kick-outs and a clear formula and system for foul play are also part of the focus. Also, officiating is also under the microscope.

According to GAA report, the primary objective is increasing the game’s overall flow of play, and allowing teams to maintain possession for greater stretches of time during matches. The theory is that the longer the possession, the greater the chance of more scoring and fewer defensive struggles.

By implementing definitive lines on the field and distinct scoring areas, a new way of gathering stats is possible, especially for fans’ enjoyment. The GAA has begun leaning into technological solutions by tracking performance metrics and centralizing game clock operators. The changes also come at a time when sports betting, including on Gaelic Football, is at an all-time high.
